Coffret Neige Noire
NEIGE NOIRE d’Olivier Laban-Mattei et Variations en solitude majeure de Lisandru Laban-Giuliani, ce sont deux ouvrages : un livre photo et un roman d’anticipation, et deux regards pour raconter le peuple groenlandais dans son errance et sa fragilité, alors qu’il est balloté entre « conflit intérieur du colonisé », rêves d’indépendance, changement climatique, problèmes sociaux et appétits aiguisés des grandes puissances.
En 1931, le célèbre romancier inuit Augo Lynge imagine le Groenland en 2021 comme un pays de cocagne inséré dans une mondialisation heureuse et en symbiose avec l’ancien colonisateur danois. En 2021, à l’occasion du tricentenaire de cette colonisation, un père (photographe) et son fils (écrivain) mettent leurs pas dans les siens pour se confronter à la société groenlandaise d’aujourd’hui. Qu’est devenu son rêve ?
Le photographe documentaire Olivier Laban-Mattei a choisi le noir & blanc pour restituer l’univers d’ombres et de lumières d’un territoire arctique bouleversé par les changements climatiques. Au Groenland, la neige devient noire au contact de la pollution. Mais ce noir est aussi celui des âmes énigmatiques et tourmentées dont il a croisé le chemin.
Son fils, le jeune auteur Lisandru Laban-Giuliani, a choisi le roman d’anticipation pour explorer l’avenir sous-tension d’un pays à la croisée des chemins, tel que ses habitants le décrivent, le craignent et le désirent. À partir des témoignages et histoires récoltées sur place, il tisse un récit aussi intime que saisissant des futurs possibles de l’île.
Ces deux regards singuliers dialoguent pour nous permettre de comprendre en profondeur pourquoi et comment le Groenland condense à lui seul toutes les problématiques planétaires actuelles.
« Neige noire propose un regard singulier sur le Groenland et ses habitants. Ce recueil n’a pas pour ambition de tout dire ni de tout montrer. Il n’est qu’une porte d’entrée parmi d’autres vers un univers tourmenté où le réel, souvent cruel, se teinte parfois de mystique ; il est le fruit de vibrantes rencontres avec des femmes et des hommes tantôt en proie au doute, tantôt empreints d’espoir, qui m’ont conté leur terre à travers leurs propres errances, leurs blessures et leur mémoire. Ce n’est pas l’histoire du Groenland que je rapporte dans ces pages, mais des histoires qui s’y vivent aujourd’hui. À celles et ceux qui pourraient m’objecter un certain pessimisme, comprenez que la mélancolie étreint bien des cœurs de la communauté inuite de l’île. Les Groenlandais ont partagé avec moi cette peine, de même qu’ils l’expriment dans leurs chants, leur peinture, leur littérature. L’écrivain Kelly Berthelsen l’a résumée un jour : « Du Nord nous vient la noirceur ». Cependant, ce livre se décline surtout en nuances de gris. Car rien n’est jamais tranché, tout est toujours complexe. Neige noire raconte autant ceux qui souffrent et subissent que ceux qui s’efforcent d’améliorer leur existence et celle de leur entourage. Car du Nord peut aussi venir la lumière. À chacun d’entre nous d’observer les mouvements chaotiques de ce monde du début du monde, en première ligne des dérèglements de notre siècle, pour interroger, par extension, notre avenir à tous. » -Olivier Laban-Mattei.
