Ma mère a été diagnostiquée d’une démence fronto-temporale, accompagnée de la maladie de Charcot.
J’ai alors choisi de partir en Islande, dans l’idée d’un voyage introspectif. Je pensais y trouver un portrait singulier du pays, mais c’est finalement celui de ma mère qui s’est imposé à moi. Depuis l’annonce de sa maladie, je médite sur la notion de «deuil blanc» — ce deuil qui commence avant la fin, quand l’être aimé est encore là, mais déjà en train de s’éloigner.Je cherche à la représenter sans jamais sombrer dans le voyeurisme de sa condition. Des images me traversent, chargées de sensations, d’instabilité, traduisant sa disparition progressive. Peu à peu, son essence se révèle dans l’effacement : sa voix s’éteint, ses souvenirs se dissolvent, son visage devient peau craquelée. Elle s’efface lentement, ne laissant qu’une coquille vide.
Cette lente disparition m’inspire une matière fragile, presque organique : le papier artisanal. J’ai choisi de collaborer avec mon oncle, artisan papetier, pour matérialiser cette transformation à travers un support vivant, évolutif, vulnérable. Face à cette fragilité de l’existence, je ressens une profonde impuissance et c’est précisément cette condition humaine que je souhaite interroger. Les paysages d’Islande, instables, entre feu et glace, incarnent à mes yeux cette tension intérieure. Ils deviennent une métaphore du cerveau malade, des neurones qui se désagrègent, comme du papier trop fin.
Le hasard, l’impermanence, la fragilité : tout cela s’exprime à travers ce support. Le papier, en se transformant, devient le témoin de mon deuil en mutation. J’y ajoute des touches de peinture, posées lentement, comme pour prolonger le lien, enrichir la mémoire, habiter ce monde en train de se dérober.
À travers cette matière, je tente de saisir la beauté éphémère de l’existence.
