Cet ouvrage met en avant une sélection de photographies de deux pionniers de la photographie moderne. Jacques Henri Lartigue et André Kertész, ont construit leur oeuvre chacun de leur côté, suivant des voies parallèles ou divergentes mais systématiquement en marge des grands courants. Ni journalistes, ni documentaristes, ni acteurs de l’événement, chacun donna à ses photographies une dimension intemporelle qui explique l’intérêt toujours renouvelé des spectateurs.

Ces deux personnalités singulières ont un caractère commun: celui d’avoir été des maîtres de la photographie qui ont inspiré de nombreux photographes sans jamais avoir fait école, celui de s’être tenu en marge des grands courants de la photographie en ayant toujours fait « un pas de côté ».

Cette publication est en coédition avec la Ville de Versailles et la Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie. L’ouvrage comprend un texte général de Marion Perceval directrice de la Donation Jacques Henri Lartigue et de Matthieu Rivallin, adjoint à la responsable du département de la photographie de la MPP, un portfolio de 70 images mêlant les oeuvres des deux photographes.
