Chris Killip est largement considéré comme l’un des photographes britanniques les plus influents. Skinningrove est la dernière publication à laquelle Killip a travaillé avant son décès en 2020. Connu pour sa passion pour les livres de photographie, il a supervisé tous les éléments de ce livre, qui présente de nombreuses images inédites. Nous sommes très fiers de présenter cette publication unique au monde.

Né sur l’île de Man en 1946, il a commencé sa carrière en tant que photographe commercial avant de se consacrer à son propre travail à la fin des années 1960. Son livre In Flagrante, une collection de photographies prises dans le nord-est de l’Angleterre dans les années 1970 et au début des années 1980, est aujourd’hui reconnu comme un ouvrage de référence en matière de photographie documentaire.

Le village de Skinningrove se trouve sur la côte nord-est de l’Angleterre, caché dans une vallée escarpée qui s’écarte de la route principale et fait face à la mer du Nord. Les photographies que Chris Killip a prises de cette communauté de travailleurs farouchement indépendants, entre 1982 et 1984, sont probablement l’œuvre la plus intime de Killip.
