« Une pièce vide sera remplie de lumière de par son vide ». C’est ainsi que le concept de « Mukayu » est défini par le philosophe Chinois Zhuangzi.

Le travail photographique récent, poétique et très intime de Paul Cupido réalisé au Japon s’inspire de ce concept de « Mukayu », qui fait aussi référence à la « non-existence », aux « choses telles qu’elles sont ».

Mukayu s'inscrit dans le cadre plus large du concept philosophique de « Mu », source d’inspiration pour Paul Cupido depuis son premier livre d'artiste Searching for Mu. Mu pourrait se traduire par « ne pas avoir » ou encore « lâcher prise ».

À travers ses images, Paul Cupido explore les thèmes du vide, de la métamorphose, du transitoire, de l’éphémère, en lien avec nos expériences émotionnelles.

Ses images, véritables poèmes visuels, parfois mélancoliques et surréalistes, interrogent notre rapport au réel et notre capacité à rêver. Son désir de comprendre et d'embrasser la nature imprègne son travail, qui se nourrit de son île natale, Terschelling, et du lien unissant ses habitants à la nature.

Le système de double-livret permet une multitude d'associations d'images, imprimées sur 4 types de papiers.

Mukayu est un ouvrage qui offre une expérience émotionnelle, à l'image des oeuvres organiques de l'artiste, qui se ressentent, comme une méditation.

Édition limitée à 40 exemplaires numérotés et signés accompagnés d’un tirage Toyobo sur papier Washi.
