" Pendant sept ans, Sebastião Salgado a parcouru le biome de l’Amazonie brésilienne et photographié sa forêt, ses nuages, ses rivières, ses montagnes et ses peuples autochtones. Son album Amazônia montre cet univers abyssal où la puissance immense de la nature s’exprime comme nulle part ailleurs sur Terre. Il nous invite aussi à contempler ces acteurs humains et environnementaux qui sont si cruciaux pour notre planète et nous engage à protéger l’écosystème et les peuples premiers de la région.
En collaboration avec les Français de la Fondation VISIO, Salgado a conçu un projet exceptionnel destiné aux enfants et adultes aveugles ou déficients visuels: Amazônia Touch, un coffret réunissant les 21 «transcriptions» tactiles en trois dimensions de 18 photos et 3 cartes géographiques extraites du livre de Salgado Amazônia. Ces images en relief sont produites avec des plaques de cuivre sur papier Pachica au moyen d’une technique ancestrale d’estampage et de gravure. Pour la première fois, il est possible de toucher du bout des doigts la puissance des clichés de Salgado. Les 21 plaques en relief sont accompagnées d’une brochure qui présente les 18 photos et 3 cartes en anglais, français et brésilien, ainsi que d’un accès aux descriptions audio des œuvres, accessibles en ligne."
