Des stars comme on ne les a jamais vues. Quand le rideau tombe, la vie des chanteurs continue. Ils se marient, ont des enfants, nouent des amitiés, vivent des coups de foudre, partent en vacances...

Hugues Vassal a été pendant de nombreuses années le témoin privilégié de tous ces moments. Aux côtés de Charles Aznavour, Françoise Hardy, Sheila, Claude François, Joe Dassin, Johnny et Sylvie, il a partagé cette vie qui commence quand les projecteurs s'éteignent. Les attachés de presse n'existaient pas encore : entre l'artiste et le photographe, il suffisait d'une rencontre, d'un fou rire partagé, pour tisser une relation de confiance.

Edith Piaf fut la première à offrir cette complicité à Hugues Vassal, une rencontre qui a marqué pour toujours l'existence du jeune photographe. Entre 1957 et 1975, Mireille Mathieu, Dalida, Hugues Aufray, Christophe, Maurice Chevalier, Joséphine Baker et bien d'autres le laisseront à leur tour poser son objectif sur leur vie.

Ses milliers de photos prises au fil des jours racontent aussi une époque insouciante et légère, où tout semblait possible. Parmi ces clichés exclusifs, certains ne furent jamais publiés.
