Le regard photographique de l'architecte sur sa Rome natale.
Il existe de nombreuses images de Rome en noir et blanc, apparemment contradictoires, que Ludovico Quaroni a prises dans la ville éternelle. Le baroque y côtoie les baraques, tandis que l'explosion de la société de consommation - pendant le boom économique italien - n'efface guère les traces d'une ville qui semble tout droit sortie d'un film de Vittorio De Sica ou de Roberto Rossellini. Et puis, il y a les fontaines de Rome et les rives du Tibre, la Rinascente de Franco Albini et le château Saint-Ange, l'EUR et le Vatican, jusqu'au marché de la Piazza Vittorio et l'ancienne Voie Appienne. Des couches de civilisations qui s'entrecroisent, et entre elles, le peuple de Rome, apparemment indifférent au passage des siècles. Le regard de l'architecte donne vie à un livre inédit et surprenant qui peut aussi être considéré - et c'est là le fil conducteur - comme un témoignage d'amour envers la ville où il est né. Un texte de l'écrivain Francesco Pecoraro, lui-même élève de Quaroni, rend hommage à la Rome du grand architecte.
