KHO : trois lettres, prononcées « rho », pour désigner le mot « frère », un vocable de solidarité que Romain Laurendeau entend chaque jour à Alger, ville dont il a entrepris de faire le récit photographique de 2014 jusqu'à 2019. En immersion dans les quartiers populaires, il capte au plus près les enjeux d’une société dont la jeunesse semblait jusqu’à peu paralysée par l’absence totale de perspectives. En bon documentariste, il privilégié l’étude de lieux qui sont autant d’espaces de résistance et qui ont contribué à la chute récente du pouvoir : le mythique quartier de Bal El Oued, les stades de football devenus des lieux de contestation et les « dikis », des territoires insoupçonnés et secrets, véritables bulles de liberté où la jeunesse algéroise abrite ses amours, ses excès et ses espoirs.
