Watabe Yukichi (1924-1993), reporter photographe indépendant, a couvert la plupart des grands évènements historiques et politiques se déroulant à Tokyo.

En 1958 il se voit accorder l’autorisation exceptionnelle de documenter l’enquête menée par la police municipale de Tokyo relative à « l’affaire du corps coupé » : Le 13 janvier 1958, un nez, deux phalanges et un pénis sont découverts dans un bac à huile à proximité du lac Sembako (préfecture d’Ibaraki). Le lendemain, la police trouve le corps d’un homme de l’autre côté du lac, grossièrement défiguré. Plusieurs doigts sont coupés et l’intégralité du corps est rongée à l’acide, dans le but évident de rendre impossible toute identification.

Il publie une sélection d’images dans le numéro de juin 1958 du magazine Nippon.
