Cette vision des femmes japonaises est un stéréotype courant. La photographe norvégienne Anne-Stine Johnsbråten a décidé de transmettre une perspective plus nuancée.

"Lorsque j'ai voyagé au Japon, j'étais impatiente d'entendre ce que les femmes allaient dire sur le travail et l'égalité des sexes. Je me suis demandé comment elles considéraient leur liberté dans une perspective de genre. Comment elles voient l'avenir."

Le livre dresse le portrait d'une centaine de femmes japonaises issues de différentes générations, de différents milieux et de différents groupes professionnels.

Les structures sous-jacentes de la société font qu'il est difficile pour les femmes de mener à la fois une carrière fructueuse et une vie de famille au Japon. Cependant, les rôles traditionnels et bien établis des hommes et des femmes au Japon semblent être à un tournant - remis en question par des femmes fortes et progressistes.

Ce livre nous donne un aperçu unique du pays des grands contrastes, du plus traditionnel au plus moderne, vu du point de vue de ces femmes.

Il s'agit du premier livre d'Anne-Stine Johnsbråten.
