Cela vient de très loin. Jean-Pierre ne s’est jamais donné la posture du maître. Ce qui le caractérise est la sûreté d’un regard intimement lié au respect profond, généreux, chrétien, des expérimentations des autres. Rencontrer a toujours été l’un de ses plus grands plaisirs. Et avec lui, l’acte de connaissance se manifeste chaque fois comme un moment de lumière, dégageant chaque image du local et la drapant d’universel. J’ai eu le bonheur de parcourir les dizaines de boîtes où sont méthodiquement classés ses tirages. Classement d’orfèvre. Chaque feuille posée sur le plat de la main est un bonheur des sens, le papier a été choisi, le sélénium poudroie, les gris sont traités puissamment. Et puis, dans ces boîtes se trouvent aussi les albumines de Tlemcen, les plaques de verre du Cambodge, les portraits de Cavilla, les échanges portant le don au plus haut du bonheur de dialoguer avec les autres photographes : Edouard Boubat, Willy Ronis, Bernard Plossu, Claude Dityvon, Luc Choquer ou Marie-Paule Nègre, pour ne citer que ses préférés. Ce recueil de photographies prises au Maroc, montre la sensibilité du photographe né en 1936 à Saint-Omer, son amour du pays, ses nombreuses rencontres et l'influence d'autres photographes sur son œuvre.
