1973. Après deux années passées à New York (America, Americas - New York, Éd. de Juillet, 2021), Alain Keler reçoit sa première commande photographique. Un éditeur américain le missionne pour réaliser des images d’illustration sur le continent sud-américain. Au cours de ses deux voyages, le jeune Alain appréhende ce métier qu’il désirait tant pratiquer. Mexique, Vénézuela, Guatemala, Chili, Argentine, Pérou, Porto Rico… son long périple l’amène à croiser – déjà ! – les grands événements et les gens ordinaires qui les vivent.

Lorsque les clichés commandés sont dans la boîte, le photographe réalise des images plus personnelles, en continuité avec sa pratique new yorkaise, des images à la sauvette, ancrées dans le quotidien, avec son regard empreint d’humanité et d’empathie.

Le deuxième volume d’America Americas retrace les premiers pas de photographe professionnel d’Alain Keler. C’est au cours de ces deux voyages sud américains qu’il est contacté par l’agence Sygma, qu’il intégrera en 1975 pour mener la carrière que l’on sait.
