Life, Death and Everything in Between présente des photographies clés de Don McCullin. Les 140 images du livre, dont certaines étaient rarement publiées ou n’avaient jamais été vues auparavant, ont été éditées par McCullin dans le cadre du processus de révision de ses archives et de réévaluation de photographies réalisées de la fin des années 1950 à l’an dernier. Le livre ne se veut ni une rétrospective ni une publication définitive, mais une sélection d’images appréciées par McCullin avec les avantages du recul et de la sagesse, résumant sa carrière prolifique, variée et en cours.
Le livre s’ouvre sur les photographies documentaires de McCullin réalisées à Londres dans les années 1950, suivies de reportages réalisés dans des conflits en Europe, en Afrique, au Moyen-Orient et en Asie du Sud-Est. Des photographies plus récentes du livre relient l’héritage de l’Empire romain en Méditerranée et les derniers paysages inédits réalisés près de chez lui dans le Somerset.
