De la diversité de ses in influences, Hassan Hajjaj, artiste anglo-marocain, a créé une forme de métissage artistique, un univers fantasque et excentrique qui engage un dialogue entre tradition et modernité, culture et pop culture. Connu pour ses portraits ultra colorisés à la frontière entre pratique documentaire et photographie de mode, il associe aussi dans ses compositions des pagnes africains, des boîtes de conserve, des logos ou monogrammes détournés. Il élabore ainsi une sorte de réappropriation visuelle des produits de consommations globalisés et propose une interprétation critique de l’exotisme orientale. Simplement titré Hassan Hajjaj, ce livre publié à l’occasion de la rétrospective que lui consacre la MEP en septembre 2019, est la première monographie d’envergure consacrée à son travail. On y retrouve l’ensemble des séries qui ont fait sa célébrité ainsi que son travail en noir et blanc jusque là inédit.
