Ce livre illustré rassemble les photographies en couleur du littoral de Joel Meyerowitz. Depuis 1976, il photographie la baie de Cape Cod à toute heure du jour et de la nuit, capturant l'atmosphère contemplative créée par la lumière, l'air et l'eau. Meyerowitz explique que ses photographies « intensifient la beauté du rivage en éliminant ce qui était superflu ».
Bien que les images de cette édition soient issues de son œuvre photographique réalisée à Cape Cod, elles évoquent également la magie de l'été partout où la terre, la mer et le ciel se conjuguent.
