"Le voyage auquel nous convie Pierre Gély-Fort tient plus du cauchemar que de la partie de plaisir.
Dans ce paquebot aux allures de bunker, les croisiéristes ressemblent à des bagnards enfermés dans un environnement factice où dégouline l’infatuation et la satiété. On se met en scène béatement, goulûment, dans un décor de carton-pâte qui ne fonctionne que comme un miroir opulent de la réussite sociale et du bonheur matériel. Le vaisseau est gargantuesque au point de phagocyter tout le champ de vision. Nulle perception du paysage extérieur, c’est à peine si on voit un bout de ciel ou de mer.
Comme Patrick McGoohan dans « Le prisonnier », l’île-prison, le paquebot, est tout ce que les occupants ont la possibilité d’arpenter, de contempler et de consommer. Toute autre forme de rêve leur apparaît non seulement comme proscrite mais aussi comme futile. Dans ce navire dont le gigantisme anesthésie tout le hors-champ, ceux qui ont embarqué ont renoncé à leur caractère individuel pour se fondre dans le moule d’une classe de privilégiés. Seule condition : be happy !
Derrière leur apparente innocuité, les clichés de Pierre Gély-Fort portent un regard sans complaisance sur un univers où tout concourt à réduire les êtres au rang de consommateurs serviles et niais. A l’extrême opposé d’un reportage photo-journalistique, Pierre découpe minutieusement au scalpel sa vision très personnelle d’une pâleur incandescente. Délaissant la couleur à laquelle il nous avait habitués lors de ses voyages poétiques dans des pays lointains, il a opté pour un noir et blanc radical, fortement contrasté, clinique. L’objectif n’est pas de magnifier, d’humaniser le récit, mais bien de démystifier cette croisière qui certes s’amuse, mais comme un poisson séquestré dans son bocal."
