Avec For the Aliens, recueil de photographies prises entre 1996 et 2016, et réalisées à l’occasion de l’exposition « I Barely Remember » à la Galerie @co116 à Paris en septembre 2016, Léo Berne présente le monde des humains aux extraterrestres qui découvriraient son livre. Un monde d’images de petits moments de la vie quotidienne dans lequel la vie réussit parfois à être merveilleuse. Léo Berne nous plonge dans un univers où la lumière, la couleur, l’intimité, l’érotisme, la mélancolie et l’humour se font écho avec une cohérence audacieuse, dans une atmosphère très cinématographique.

Je prends des photos comme le ferais un touriste, davantage pour créer de jolies images et des souvenirs mais d’une certaine façon, je trouve que la photo est un pauvre moyen pour se souvenir. Cela crée des images qui deviennent plus fortes que les souvenirs et qui les consument. Avec le temps, je finis par recréer les souvenirs en partant de l’image, au lieu d’inclure l’image dans le souvenir réel.

Réalisateur au sein du collectif Megaforce, ouvrant entre autre pour Madonna, Rihanna, Yeah Yeah Yeahs ou Metrononomy, Léo Berne a obstinément entretenu en parallèle, depuis l’adolescence, un travail photographique beaucoup plus personnel. L’exposition « I Barely Remember » est à la fois un journal de voyage et un album de portraits, inclus dans une série de trames et de micro-récits révélant les sentiments d’un auteur inspiré par la poésie de l’évaporation du souvenir.
