Au début des années 1970, alors qu'il était à l'université, Henry Horenstein assistait à des courses de vitesse en Nouvelle-Angleterre pour voir son beau-frère participer à des compétitions. Devant son appareil photo, les pilotes s'élançaient sur la piste dans des voitures personnalisées pour la course, à des vitesses vertigineuses, dans l'espoir de remporter la gloire dans une petite ville.

Les images joyeuses d'Horenstein nous donnent un aperçu de ce à quoi ressemblait le monde de la course automobile à l'époque, avant qu'elle ne devienne une grande entreprise, et qu'elle ne se transforme lentement en Nascar, le sport qui connaît la croissance la plus rapide au monde.
