ANYTHING HELPS est un livre de photographies couleur prises en 2012, à Oakland, Emeryville et Berkeley, par Gino Castoriano lorsqu’elle habitait en Californie, dans la baie de San Francisco.
À chacun de ses déplacements en voiture, quand elle arrivait à un feu rouge, elle voyait des jeunes, des femmes et des hommes, des vétérans de la guerre du Vietnam, de la guerre du Golfe, des retraités, des personnes malades avec chacun une pancarte à la main et toujours le même message : « Aidez-moi, comme vous le pouvez, de l’argent, de la nourriture, une prière, un sourire, un rien peut aider. Merci. Que Dieu vous bénisse.»
Ils échangeaient des regards, un sourire et Gino engageait la conversation.
« J’ai eu besoin de garder en mémoire leurs mots, leur façon de demander de l’aide avec dignité toujours, humour parfois, un sens artistique aussi, avec gentillesse et une générosité inversée. Je leur ai demandé si je pouvais prendre en photo leur pancarte.
Ils ont tous dit oui.
Et nous nous sommes dit mutuellement merci. »
