Christopher Anderson a commencé à photographier les policiers de la ville de New York au lendemain du 11 septembre, alors que le paysage visuel de la ville qu'il appelait son foyer commençait à changer. Les barrières anti-bombes se sont multipliées, les policiers portant de gros fusils semblaient être partout, et bien que la présence accrue de la sécurité ait été conçue, en partie, pour que les New-Yorkais se sentent en sécurité, elle a rappelé à Anderson que quelque chose n'allait pas du tout.
Puis, dans le sillage d'Occupy Wall Street, de la mort d'Eric Garner et de l'élection de Trump, Anderson s'est retrouvé à photographier à nouveau les policiers dans les rues de New York, comme une forme de protestation inconsciente contre un sens plus large de l'autorité.
Anderson est membre de l'agence Magnum. Il a été reconnu pour la première fois en 1999 lorsque ses images poignantes du sauvetage de réfugiés haïtiens pris à bord d'un bateau en bois en train de couler lui ont valu la médaille d'or Robert Capa.
