Steve McCurry était à New York le 11 septembre 2001. Manhattan est son île, son port d'attache entre deux reportages de l'autre côté du globe. Les tours jumelles étaient au centre de son horizon. Il les a vues tomber, s'est approché au plus près, photographiant sans comprendre, cadrant les cicatrices de la ville et de ses habitants.
Quinze ans après cette tragédie, Aire Libre et l'Agence Magnum se devaient de revenir sur les événements ; ce sera à travers les yeux de ce faiseur d'images, et sous la plume du si talentueux dessinateur coréen Jung Gi Kim.
Construit autour des disparus du World Trade Center, le récit déborde pourtant pour évoquer les nombreux voyages de ce photographe de guerre "par accident" et les images iconiques qu'il en a ramenées.
Mêlant presque 80 photographies (dont huit clichés inédits) et des entretiens à la fiction, McCurry NY 11 septembre 2001 nous offre le témoignage d'un homme qui observe le monde et ses habitants basculer du siècle d'avant au jour d'aujourd'hui.
