"Arpenteur du monde, Éric Bouvet a choisi cette fois-ci de rester au bercail. Ou plutôt de s’envoler vers les hauteurs de son pays, les Alpes, et de s’engager là encore, physiquement parlant. Chroniqueur d’autres convulsions de la planète, il fait désormais chambre à part, si l’on peut dire, délaissant le Leica ou le boîtier reflex 24x36 pour un appareil de grand format, qui exige davantage d’efforts – de l’esprit et du corps –, de patience et de préparation à la prise de vue. «Dans la photogra- phie d’actualités, dit Éric Bouvet, on privilégie l’instant et l’instinct. En montagne, à la chambre, l’instinct demeure, mais cet instant s’étire pour laisser place à la réflexion, au temps long.» Comme un documentariste de films animaliers, Bouvet est à l’affût. Il prend son temps, crapahute sur les versants, s’endort à la belle, très belle étoile, taquine sans les brusquer ces géants de roche qui l’attirent autant qu’ils l’ef- fraient – sage posture –, ne craint pas la morsure du froid sur les doigts."
