Thomas Dhellemmes explore la diversité du monde avec son Polaroid SX-70. Sa série Légumineux commencée en septembre 2009 porte sur les légumes rares et oubliés de jardins historiques, comme le Potager du Roi à Versailles. En 2015, l’ouvrage Légumineux est publié aux éditions Atelier Mai 98, une structure pluridisciplinaire crée par l’artiste qui va de l’édition au stylisme.
«Les légumes oubliés, de part leur forme et leur saveur, sont à la fois élémentaires et très complexes. Ils portent en eux la richesse des remèdes de grands-mères. Ils sont importants, savants. Ils sont aussi périssables. Comme mes Polaroïds, ils vont disparaître. Il y a un côté effacement. À notre époque, les gens multiplient les clichés numériques puisqu’ils ne sont pas limités. Ils ne réfléchissent pas avant de déclencher, là, c’est le contraire d’une image instantanée superficielle. C’est un travail complexe, lent, où le temps est important. J’ai dû mettre en place avant de shooter. Mes images ne se regardent pas sur un ordinateur mais dans un livre, étudié pour former un tout avec elles.»
