Le titre de ce recueil de portraits musiciens, pour la plupart masculins, HOME GROWN, peut à la fois désigner la mise en scène de la photo, mais aussi évoquer son message.
Home Grown peut résonner comme le côté "pittoresque" de ce livre, c'est la référence spontanée et authentique de Mélanie Elbaz aux artistes rencontrés. Une personnalité saisie sur le vif, qui éclipse le réel, et tire parti d'un décor non identifié. Le lieu, le caractère familier du portrait importe moins que la fidélité immédiate au personnage, le ressenti instantané, le vrai du personnage. Home Grown c'est aussi la résonance "intérieure", l'origine d'une vision de l'homme, non seulement d'un regard créateur. Mélanie Elbaz va au delà d'une rencontre matérielle, elle questionne par l'image le psyché de l'individu portraituré, son âme, son coeur, son rapport au rêve qui l'entoure. C'est un moment aussi intime qu'immédiat, aussi bref et profond qu'il ne se veut pur et transcendant.
Le home grown devient dans ce "recueil d'identités" une forme noble et domestique, autant qu'une métaphore simple pour caractériser l'aura du portrait d'artiste. L'onirique devient le genre éponyme de cet art de l'icône. Et Mélanie Elbaz de conclure "it was all a dream".
