À la fin de l’année 1975, installée depuis peu à Paris, Jane Evelyn Atwood réalise son premier reportage photo, en noir et blanc, dans une écriture à la fois simple, efficace et sensible. D’une rencontre avec une prostituée de la rue des Lombards, elle découvre un univers où tout la fascine : personnages extraordinaires, costumes incroyables, regards portés sur les hommes… L’entrée de l’immeuble est miteuse, les murs crasseux, le sol couvert de mégots, une odeur de pisse envahissante, mais l’envie de mieux connaître ces femmes convaincra Jane Evelyn Atwood de partager leur vie.

Plus de trente ans après, les éditions Xavier Barral réunissent pour la première fois l’ensemble de ce travail peu connu de Jane Evelyn Atwood. Un bel hommage à ces femmes, à leur générosité, et à ce Paris la nuit de la fin des années 1970.
