Ces photographies, en provenance du monde entier, ont été réalisées entre les années 1920 et les années 1970.
Elles ont toutes en commun un détail qui nous renvoie à l’histoire de la photographie amateur : l’ombre du photographe. Jean-Marie Donat s’est approprié cette incongruité en ne sélectionnant que des images où apparaît cette ombre portant un chapeau.
C’est l’effet de répétition créé en imaginant cette série qui fait le sujet : le même homme est partout, tout le temps, menaçant.
